The Counseling Center serves as a resource to faculty and
staff by providing consultation, referral information, and education
on mental health topics.
Referral
Faculty and staff who are seeking mental health services
for themselves, family or friends may contact our office to receive
referral information on providers in the community. For more
information about when and how to refer a student for counseling visit our How to Refer a Distressed Student page.
Personal Counseling
The Counseling Center does not provide personal counseling
to university employees, only students. Employees seeking such
services are encouraged to contact the Employee Assistance Program
through Human Development Company (502.589.4357).
Consultation
Faculty and staff are often the first people in whom a
student confides. If you should have questions about how to be
supportive to a student, how to effectively address an
emotional/psychological issue with a student, or how to make a referral,
the Counseling Center staff can provide confidential consultation.
Outreach Education
If there is a mental health topic that you would like to
address with students in your class, residence hall or organization, please contact Emily Werner, the Associate Director of Wellness, or complete the Wellness Request Form.
Common topics include:
- Stress
Management
- Healthy Coping Skills
- Cultural Diversity
- LGBTQ Ally Training
- Self-Esteem
- Positive Body Image
- Sexual Assault Prevention/Health Relationships
- TIPS Alcohol Training
We can accommodate most program requests with enough
notice.
Mental Health First Aid
Just as CPR equips you to aid someone in physical distress, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) empowers you to assist individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges. This training is a powerful tool that can help you overcome the fear and hesitation to initiate a conversation about mental health and/or substance use. Participating will enhance your understanding, identify and address potential mental health concerns or crises, and contribute to a healthier community. Find out more about Mental Health First Aid.
Please email Beatriz Arevalo at barevalo@bellarmine.edu if you are interested in participating in the training.
QPR Training
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college
students. Faculty and staff are often in a position of influence with
students and may have students confide in them thoughts of suicide.
When this happens, it is important to feel prepared to respond in the
most effective way possible. QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is a 90
minute program designed to give faculty and staff the basic tools to
respond in such situations. To arrange a QPR Training for your
department or group, contact the Counseling Center 502.272.8480. Learn more about QPR Training.
