Anterior spinothalamic tract
- along with axon fibers of the
lateral spinothalamic tract form the anterolateral
system that relays second order pain, temperature
and light touch information to brainstem and thalamic
nuclei. These fibers are primarily crossed fibers
originating from cells on the contralateral side of
the spinal cord posterior cell column. The anterior
spinothalamic tract conveys primarily light touch
somatosensory information.
