Lateral corticospinal tract
- along with the anterior cortical
spinal tract, this consists of fibers of cells that
originate in the cerebral cortex, pass through
the medullary pyramids and descend into the spinal
cord. These tracts are primarily considered to be
motor tracts, although the majority of cells that
contribute to the corticospinal tract originate in
cortical regions associated with the sensory systems. The lateral corticospinal tract contains fibers that cross the midline in the pyramidal decussation.
