Red nucleus
- (nucleus ruber) a large nucleus of the midbrain that facilitates contralateral flexor motoneurons and inhibits the extensor motoneurons. Input to the red nucleus is derived from the interposed cerebellar nuclei and regions of the motor cortex. Output of the red nucleus is to the cerebellum, the spinal cord, the facial and trigeminal nuclei, and to medullary relay nuclei.
