When Charlie DeRossett arrived at Bellarmine University as a new student from Georgetown, Ky., he didn't come with expectations that he'd get very involved in campus life.
Those expectations changed during his very first day of orientation. By his senior year, DeRossett served as student director of the university's freshman orientation, responsible for coordinating a student staff of 120 to welcome new freshmen over four days of programs in August.
DeRossett, graduating this week with a biology major and a biochemistry minor, spoke to Bellarmine Magazine's weekly podcast,
The Pineapple, about his Bellarmine experience.
He said orientation covers a lot of ground in those four days, including topics like alcohol awareness and answering questions from new students about how hard their classes will be. "One of the things we do at orientation is we actually have a professor panel, where students can ask questions of professors," he said.
As he prepares to graduate, DeRossett proud of his time at Bellarmine. "People know Bellarmine in the Louisville area," he said. "I've talked to so many alumni over the past four years that are just adamant that their Bellarmine experience was the best four years of their life. They cheer when they hear Bellarmine's name."
