Wall Y'all Detail
After traveling overland through Greece, Israel, Egypt, and Turkey, I returned home and found myself looking for local signs of antiquity. Wall Y’all, is my fictitious Kentucky antiquity and is based on the limestone slave walls of the Bluegrass region. It is made up of 1,000 pieces of sculpted pine and cypress. It measures 144” x 12” x 36” and weighs over 400 pounds.
Wall Y’all took five solid months to complete, day in and day out. When I ultimately finished, I found that I couldn’t stop making the faux stone pieces. As a result, numerous smaller sculptures developed. I saw these as maquettes for life size outdoor works. These pieces feel animated and I percieve them as families. In fact, Monolith Clan Study #5 represents the three living generations of my immediate family.
Wall Y’all was purchased by Bellarmine University and appears to levitate in the library. It is actually resting on twelve angled wooden dowels.
Several of the smaller works have been exhibited in group shows.
