Flexible class format meets needs of working professionals

Bellarmine University will begin offering its Master of Science in Digital Media in a fully online, asynchronous format beginning this fall, expanding access to the program for students seeking to advance or transition their careers in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The move to an online format maintains the program’s curriculum while providing greater flexibility for students balancing professional and personal responsibilities. The asynchronous structure allows students to complete coursework on their own schedules while still benefiting from Bellarmine’s personalized approach to graduate education.

Now enrolling for fall, the program is designed for both working professionals looking to upskill and individuals seeking to enter the field of digital media. Students gain a strong foundation in modern communication strategy alongside hands-on experience with digital tools and platforms used across industries.

“Our goal is to meet students where they are,” said Dr. Pam Cartor, dean of the Bellarmine College of Arts and Sciences. “By offering the Master of Science in Digital Media in a fully online, asynchronous format, we are expanding access to a high-quality graduate education while preparing students with the practical, in-demand skills needed in today’s workforce.”

The Master of Science in Digital Media emphasizes both theory and application, equipping students with the knowledge and technical expertise to navigate and lead in fields such as digital marketing, strategic communication, and content development. Graduates are prepared for roles that require creative thinking, data-informed decision-making, digital production skills, and the ability to adapt to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The program can be completed in as little as one year or pursued part time, allowing students to tailor their experience to fit their goals and schedules.

This expansion reflects Bellarmine’s broader commitment to developing flexible, high-quality graduate programs aligned with workforce needs across the region and beyond. Since launching its first online degree program in 2015, Bellarmine has developed expertise in crafting high-quality online and hybrid degree and certificate programs that don’t lose the university’s signature personal touch. In a survey of graduate students conducted by the university last semester, students in online programs ranked their overall satisfaction level as high as those taking in-person classes.
