The Bellarmine University Women's Council has raised money for Bellarmine University students since 1963.
The Women's Council has participated in and sponsored several events over the years to work toward university goals and aid as many students as possible. Below are some of the most noted ways the Council has impacted the students at the university.
Food Pantry
The food pantry on campus is open to all Bellarmine students. This initiative was started in 2018 and is regularly used by students year round. The Women's Council collects items for the food pantry at every meeting and function to donate to the pantry to help students.
The following items are needed: hygiene products, easy to make dinners like Hamburger Helper, etc., yogurt, milk, cereal, fruit cups, pasta, pasta sauce, bread, tortillas, bagels. You can bring your donations Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm in the Treece Hallway of Centro.
Guatemala Yard Sale
Since 2009, the Women's Council has helped students have raise money for their annual service trip to Guatemala. The students organize a large yard sale that takes place in Frazier Hall every year. The Women's Council assists by collecting items, organizing a bake sale and volunteering for the event.
Women in Leadership Awards and Dinner
Starting in 2014, Bellarmine students have organized a Women in Leadership dinner with generous support from the Women's Council. This includes awards presented to four young women.
Student Emergency Fund
The Student Emergency Fund started in 2019, and is the newest initiative in which the Women's Council is assisting. The fund will be available to all students to access for needs such as emergency flights home, books, medications, etc. In March 2020, the Council voted to donate $3,500 toward this fund, to assist students impacted by the Coronavirus.
The Women's Council Room in the W.L. Lyons Brown Library
In 1997, the Women's Council presented a gift to the university for a room in the new library, that was later named The Bellarmine Women's Council Conference Room located on the top floor of the library—accessible to all.
Stone Paver
The University broke ground on the newest building on campus, Centro Hall, in 2015. To help build this amazing facility, the Women's Council donated funds for a carved stone paver outside the front doors. These pavers are still available for purchase if you are interested in supporting the university.
Petrik Scholarship Fund
The Women's Council created the Petrik Scholarship Fund in 1990 as a way to award a scholarship to a Bellarmine student.
Designers' Show House
The Show House was a fundraiser from 1974-2016 that raised about $2.5 million. This was a yearly event that was the Council's major fundraiser.
