Spring in the City: Bellarmine Student Cheyenne Grogean Shares Louisville Favorites

Student Life

Spring is, without a doubt, Louisville’s most vibrant season, with the Derby Festival’s vibrant colors and locals excited to absorb the returning sunshine marking the end of April.

Bellarmine communication major Cheyenne Grogean shares three fun events to make the most of this year's bloom.

 WFPK Waterfront Wednesday

Live music and sunset at the Ohio River encapsulate the spirit of Louisville in a way that has hallmarked Waterfront Wednesday as a local favorite. The 23rd season of WFPK Waterfront Wednesday opens on April 23, with local performers curating the lineup. Here’s the best part – it's free, and all proceeds go back into the Louisville community.

Great BallonFest

Part of the Derby Festival, the Great BalloonFest is a series of hot-air balloon events that dot the Louisville horizon with bright colors. The Great Ballon Glow will kick off the fest on the evening of April 24, followed by hot-air balloon races on April 25 and 26. It’s a fun activity for families, but even spotting the hot-air balloons while out and about brightens up the day.

Fleur de Flea

If thrifting is your thing, mark the Fleur de Flea market on your calendar. On May 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Waterfront Plaza will boast over 200 vendors offering almost everything imaginable, from vintage vinyl records to unique local artwork. The sheer size of this flea market is enough to draw crowds, so don’t miss your chance to attend.

Louisville is filled to the brim with exciting activities as the weather gets warmer, and these events have something everyone can enjoy –music, balloons, or shopping.
