Nate Butler, a former Student Government Association president who graduated with a degree in Communication, is president of Mosquito Authority, a franchise operated by Galloping Properties LLC, which Nate owns with his wife, Kristen Butler. Mosquito Authority visits customer homes in the greater Louisville area once every three weeks to conduct all-natural mosquito- and tick-prevention treatments, including spraying and removing breeding locations. “Our family loves our summertime outside, and we want the same for you,” says Nate, whose son Maximus may also be seen helping with treatments. Nate is also a member of the Bellarmine University Alumni Board.
How did Bellarmine prepare you for what you are doing today?
BU has a way of bringing out exploration, creativity, integrity, and motivation. The time I spent on campus and involved in organizations, forging relationships, and gaining confidence is invaluable. Combine that with top-notch instruction, and Knights are bound to excel. My professors realized our futures would be forged by more than just term papers and busy work. They were somehow capable of incorporating real-life experiences with the lesson at hand. They were masters of answering the age-old question, “When will I ever use this in real life?” I’m most thankful for the personal relationships formed with instructors, the small class sizes, the welcoming community, the expectation of ingenuity, and professional and academic support.
What advice do you have for someone interested in pursuing your profession?
There are few things quite as exhilarating and scary as owning your own business. That said, I say, "Go for it!" We are in a position to select the ventures we want to join, how to spend our personal time, and most importantly, how we can give back to our communities. We are fortunate to enjoy all of the industries in which we have a stake. I encourage you to look for ways to incorporate your passions and interests into your career and look for non-standard opportunities to integrate. I’ve also learned the importance of determining the work lifestyle, culture, and operational structure you will be happiest with. Finally, observe the actions and nuances of those around you. I found I picked out what I liked and didn’t like from individuals I worked with. I made sure to implement or omit actions from our business procedure.
What career accomplishments are you most proud of?
One of our key drivers in how we operate is “Pride in our product and company.” I'm overjoyed to say that on a daily basis we are proud of our end results. I have had the opportunity to serve on numerous advisory boards, work with interesting and creative individuals, lead great teams and witness some amazing successes. I’m continually shocked by the outcome of individuals and groups fully vested in a project.
