Veritas Society announces spring classes/events

The Veritas Society, sponsored by Bellarmine University School of Continuing and Professional Studies and affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute, offers a variety of special six week courses for folks who are 54 and older. This spring Veritas is offering 17 classes and four discussion groups. Classroom capacity differs from course to course, but discussion groups are limited to 18 participants allowing for very in-depth participation. Early registration is advised.

Course offerings include News Views, a discussion on Meet the Authors where six local authors will speak, Louisville's Eclectic Architecture, Two Plays by J. M. Synge, Bourbon and Kentucky 1783 to Present, and Island at the Center of the World. This year includes a new Friday class, “History of Art at the Speed Museum.”

All classes meet during the day, beginning Feb. 26 and ending April 6. Tuition for three classes is $65; each additional class is $5.

Veritas is sponsoring a Reception and Presentation of Courses for new and current members on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. For more complete information, check out our website at www.bellarmine.edu/ce, or call the Veritas office at 452-8374 for a catalog.

LUNCH AND LEARN SERIES

The Veritas Society “Lunch and Learn” series will begin March 1 at 12:15 p.m. at Hilary's in Horrigan Hall on the Bellarmine University campus. The featured speaker for the kickoff luncheon will be Craig Buthord, director of the Louisville Free Public Library, who will speak on the exciting changes occurring in 2007 as the library begins an expansion program along with other activities. The subsequent five “Lunch and Learn” programs will be held on successive Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. at the same location. The cost of all six L&L events is $60. To make reservations for the first luncheon, as well as the entire series, call Patty Murrell at (502) 452-8374 by Feb. 27. Individual lunches at $11 each may be reserved by calling the Tuesday before each L&L meeting.
