Bellarmine receives landscape architects award

April 5, 2007

Bellarmine University received a “merit award” from the Kentucky Chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects (KYASLA) at their 2007 Awards Program held recently at the Yew Dell Gardens in Crestwood, Kentucky.

The award, which was presented in the “planning” category, came for the work on the document Bellarmine University: Landscape Vision and Wayfinding Report. Landscape architectural firm Shadley Associates completed the work, which is a comprehensive landscape plan for Bellarmine’s future.

Bellarmine President Joseph J. McGowan recently announced his “Vision 2020,” which calls for Bellarmine to become the premier independent Catholic university in the South. Much of the campus growth that is a part of Vision 2020 is detailed in the “Wayfinding” report.

Shadley Associates are landscape architects and site planning consultants based in Lexington, Mass. Principals in the firm, J.P. and Pam Shadley have completed other work in the Louisville area, including George Garvin Brown Garden on Muhammad Ali Boulevard.

The American Society of Landscape Architects was founded in 1899 as the national professional association representing landscape architects. The KYASLA is one of 48 chapters representing all 50 states, US territories and 42 countries around the world.
