Bellarmine Hosts Successful Job Seeker Seminar with Local Radio Show Host

February 24, 2009

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – More than 350 people crowded into the Amy Cralle Theater in the Wyatt Center for the Arts on Saturday, Feb. 21, for Job Jam, a job seeker seminar produced in cooperation with the Francene Show on 84WHAS. Speakers provided tips for jump starting the job search with resume building, interview techniques and educational opportunities. Attendees also heard from experts on ways to manage money and remain positive while searching for a new job.

The idea for the seminar originated with a weekly segment on The Francene Show, in which the host tried to connect local job seekers with employers who had vacancies to fill.

"Every day on my radio show I heard people expressing how worried they were about the economy and the job market," says Francene. "A special concern was that they hadn't had to look for a job in 10, 15, 20 years; they didn't know where or how to start looking for new employment. Job Jam was the product of that awareness. People needed information so they could empower themselves. I've been laid off a few times so I know how tough it is."

For those unable to attend, the seminar is available for viewing online at the Kentucky Educational Television Web site: http://www.ket.org/jobjam. Speakers' presentations and hand-out materials are available on the site, as well.
