LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 28, 2010) -- Bellarmine University is marking Black History Month with a full calendar of celebration. A complete list of events is below:
-Saturday, Feb. 6: The Kentucky Opera will perform the "Oh Freedom" touring program at 3 p.m. in the Amy Cralle Theater, Wyatt Center for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public.
-Sunday, Feb. 7: A Mass featuring special music in honor of Black History Month begins at 6 p.m. in Our Lady of the Woods Chapel. The event will feature members of the Bellarmine University Choral Touring Assembly – Alexander T. Simpson Jr., Ph.D., director of choral activities; and Owen Sammons, organist. Free and open to the public.
-Saturday, Feb. 13: The Kentucky Association of Negro Musicians, in conjunction with the Bellarmine University Choral Program, will present its inaugural vocal competition at noon. The event is free and open to the public.
-Tuesday, Feb. 16: Troy Bell and the SOS (Same Ol' Soloists) Gospel Choir will perform various gospel selections in Hilary's from 11 a.m. to noon. The event is free and open to the public.
-Saturday, Feb. 20: The Bellarmine Choral Program will host the Louisville preliminary round of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's national talent hunt in the Amy Cralle Theater, Wyatt Center for the Arts, at 4 p.m. Free and open to the public.
-Sunday, Feb. 21: The Bellarmine Choral program will present its annual Black History Month concert featuring student ensembles and guest soloists. Free and open to the public.
-Monday, Feb. 22: Fr. Bryan Massingale will present, "Engaging Racism: Thomas Merton, The Church and the Ongoing Quest for Racial Justice," Frazier Hall at 7 p.m. Free and open to the public.
-Thursday, Feb. 25: The Bellarmine University faculty jazz band will perform in the café in Horrigan Hall from 11 a.m. to noon. Free and open to the public.
