LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 24, 2010) -- In recognition of Women's History Month, soprano Olivia Duval will perform vocal music by women composers at the Amy Cralle Theatre, Wyatt Center for the Arts, on Sunday, March 28, at 7 p.m. Pianist Meme Tunnell, assistant professor of music at Bellarmine, will accompany her. The program, "Familiar Ties," is free and open to the public.
The program is dedicated to the history of women and boasts a collection of beautiful art songs and spirituals by women composers from the 19th and 20th centuries. The program also includes the premiere of the song cycle "Through the Day" by black British composer, Amanda Ira Aldrige, daughter of the famous black American Shakespearean actor Baron Ira Frederick Aldrige.
About Olivia Duval
Duval has performed in "Suor Angelica" with the San Francisco Opera Center's Merola Opera Program; as Micaëla in "La Tragèdie de Carmen" at the Chautauqua Music Festival, Chautauqua, New York; and in Benjamin Britten’s "War Requiem" and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ "A Sea Symphony" with the Louisville Orchestra and the Choral Arts Society. Additionally, she has performed in recitals and concerts in Ohio, Wisconsin and throughout southern region of the United States.
About Meme Tunnell
Tunnell has performed with the Louisville Orchestra since 1988, and with several other symphonies in the United States. She also boasts recording credits on numerous albums and is currently a member of the Kentucky Music Teachers Association.
