LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 24, 2010) -- Former Ecuadorean President Jamil Mahuad will discuss Latin American politics and U.S.-Latin American relations at Bellarmine University on Tuesday, March 30. The event, at 1:30 p.m., in Frazier Hall, is free and open to the public.
Mahuad was president when Ecuador and Peru signed a historic peace accord in 1998, ending a decades-long border conflict between the two countries. He was a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. He is co-founder and senior advisor for the International Negotiation Program at Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Mass. Additionally, he is a former fellow with the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where he earned his Master in Public Administration. He earned a Doctor of Law from the Catholic University of Ecuador in Quito. Before his election as president of Ecuador, he served as mayor of Quito for 6 years.
