Keeping pace with increasing enrollment and growing demand for on-campus living, Bellarmine University opened its newest residence hall today, and held a groundbreaking ceremony for more student housing that will open next fall.
With the opening of Siena Quarto, built to accommodate 129 undergraduate students, Bellarmine’s on-campus residential population is a record 1,021 students spread among six residence halls. Bellarmine’s next residence hall, Siena Terzo, opens in Fall 2011. The Siena complex, when complete, will feature four separate residence halls enclosing a landscaped courtyard with fountains and a small amphitheater.
“As Bellarmine continues to attract more students from outside the Louisville area, our Board of Trustees has invested in additional student housing on our campus,” said Dr. Joseph J. McGowan, Bellarmine’s president. “These beautiful new residence halls, along with larger, updated dining facilities, a fitness center, and improved athletic facilities, add to the richness of the overall Bellarmine experience.”
More than 40 percent of Bellarmine’s undergraduate students live on campus, including 73 percent of this year’s freshman class.
Siena Quarto features private restrooms in each bedroom, wireless Internet access, a kitchen, laundry facilities, balconies, group study space, and a lobby gathering area. The 38,000-square-foot facility was built at a cost of $8 million.
