Bellarmine University and the
Louisville Free Public Library are partnering with the
Foundation Center, a leading global resource
on philanthropy, to offer a free grant writing workshop on Friday, April 5, at Bellarmine.
The workshop, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will be led by Kief Schladweiler, the Foundation Center's Cooperating Collections Coordinator. Bellarmine and the public library are hosting the event to raise awareness of free databases of information
for grant seekers that are available to non-profit organizations at Bellarmine's
W. L. Lyons Brown Library and the
main branchof the Louisville Free Public Library. Access to this information is offered in collaboration with the Foundation Center.
“Non-profits are on the front lines of driving change and building vibrant communities. These workshops build the
skills of organizational leaders to find funding and operate effectively,” said Schladweiler. "They say 'a rising tide lifts all ships,' and this workshop will help rise the tide of fundraising talent within the region's nonprofits.”
The workshop, "Proposal Writing Basics and Introduction to Philanthropy In/sight," examines what funders expect to see in a proposal and includes tips for making each section of a grant proposal stronger. Anyone interested in attending may register
by emailing Debi Griffin in Bellarmine's Faculty Development Center at
dgriffin@bellarmine.edu.
"Patrons at the Louisville Free Public Library have benefited tremendously
from the Foundation Center's online and print resources," said Ken Wuetcher, the Louisville Free Public Library's Foundation Center Coordinator. "The foundation's database has helped many non-profits find the funds necessary to provide top-notch programs
for our community."
"Our partnership with the Foundation Center not only allows us to provide their comprehensive databases on foundation grants to members of the Bellarmine community to support our educational programs, but also to the wider
local and regional non-profit community seeking funding to improve our world," said Dr. John Stemmer, director of Bellarmine's W. L. Lyons Brown Library.
The Foundation Center is the leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide.
Through data, analysis and training, it connects people who want to change the world to the resources they need to succeed. The center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. and, increasingly, global grantmakers and their grants — a robust,
accessible knowledge bank for the sector. It also operates research, education, and training programs designed to advance knowledge of philanthropy at every level.
