The McGrath Gallery at Bellarmine University is hosting “The Inland Experience,” a photography exhibit featuring work by members of the Society for Photographic Education Women’s Caucus.

Juried by artist Margaret LeJeune, “The Inland Experience” runs throughout October and highlights the unique environmental and cultural character of the American Midwest.

Participating artists work and teach throughout the Midwest. They include Sarah Berkeley, Jasmine Clark, Dana Fritz, Lee Ann Paynter, Kris Sanford, Mille Tibbs and Crystal Tursich. The exhibit was organized in conjunction with the 2015 Louisville Photo Biennial and the Society for Photographic Education midwest regional conference, “Throwing Light, Catching Shadows.”

The opening reception is Thursday, October 1, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

All McGrath events are free and open to the public. The gallery is located in the Wyatt Center for the Arts, on Bellarmine Boulevard off Norris Place, near the intersection of Norris Place and Princeton Drive. Hours are Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., when Bellarmine is open. [campus map]

LeJeune will visit Bellarmine’s campus to discuss her own work on Wednesday, September 30, at 4 p.m. in the Lintner Room on the first floor of Treece Hall (formerly Horrigan Hall). The public is invited.

LeJeune is the area coordinator for the graduate and undergraduate photography programs at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. She earned a master’s degree in fine arts from the Visual Studies Workshop at SUNY Brockport in Rochester, N.Y. and has lectured widely on topics ranging from women in the arts to developing one’s personal creative voice.

Her series “The Modern Day Diana,” which explores the relationship of women hunters to their domestic spaces, has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and has garnered awards including a grant from the Puffin Foundation.
