Veteran job networking, panel discussion on transition from military to workforce at Bellarmine on April 14

April 7, 2016

On Thursday, April 14, a panel of veterans will discuss the unique skills veterans bring to the civilian workforce, in addition to some of the challenges they face. The free event, which includes a veteran job networking opportunity, takes place at 6 p.m. at Bellarmine University.

The veteran panelists include Richard Brown, who has experience hiring veterans; Andrew Hagerman, incoming president of the Bellarmine Student Veterans’ Association; and Ashley Hite, a current student. They will describe the skills they gained during their military service as a valuable commodity that can be put to use as students and, later, as employees.

Companies sending employment recruiters to the event include UPS, GE, Lexmark, TQL and Opportunity Knox, an organization that helps connect veterans to careers.

The event includes a question and answer session, and snacks will be available.

This is the third in this year’s “Warrior to Scholar to Leader” series of free Bellarmine programs focusing on the experiences veterans have when transitioning from military to college and into the workforce. The series is a collaboration between Bellarmine University, the Bellarmine Student Veterans’ Association and Athena’s Sisters, a Louisville-based organization for military women.
