In high school, Miranda Maertz remembers wanting to attend a large state school, so Bellarmine University wasn't part of her plan, even when she scheduled a campus visit there.
The economics major, who graduates on Saturday, recalled her college search during a conversation with
The Pineapple, Bellarmine Magazine's podcast.
"I actually came to visit Bellarmine, to visit someone who had graduated who went to my high school," she said. "I thought, I'll get a college visit out of it, we can get lunch, everything will be fine. I fell in love with the school. I was like, oh darn, this is not the plan."
She remembers how impressed she was that everyone seemed to know her student tour guide by name as they walked across campus. "It was like, I want that. I want to go to a school where people are nice enough to say hi. There's a big emphasis on community here. I really like that," she said.
On the podcast, she also talks about her study abroad experience in South Africa and offers tips for living with a college roommate.
