As freshman move-in day draws near, we asked several incoming students a variety of questions to get to know them a little better. Over the coming weeks, we will share some of their responses as a sneak peek into the incoming class of 2022.
Today we will highlight the responses shared with us by Kaylea Dusch.
Why did you pick Bellarmine?
Bellarmine was the choice for me because it’s a campus that gives you that vibe where it’s a community or almost family-style of school. Whenever I was applying for college, Bellarmine wasn’t my first choice; but, whenever I kept getting more information in the mail, I realized how much they care about their current and possible incoming students. The students, staff, and faculty that were present at the campus tour and orientation really represent what Bellarmine is all about. They want to know what questions you have and they strive to continue to better themselves. Plus, with that sense of familiarity, it’s something that other larger campuses don’t provide.
Have you picked a major? What will you be studying?
Yes, I have chosen a major. When I was younger I knew I’d be somewhere in the health field because both of my parents and my aunt worked at a hospital. So I have finally decided on majoring in nursing, particularly studying to be a nurse anesthetist. I absolutely love talking to people and being a social butterfly, and the opportunities are endless with the kinds of people I’ll be able to meet working in the medical field. I hope to study abroad, as well, to see the different people and how they take care of one another.
What class are you most excited to take your first semester? Why is that?
Out of all the classes I’ve been scheduled for, I’m most excited about taking human anatomy for the first semester. I don’t want to brag, but I had a pretty amazing anatomy teacher in high school who inspired me to have a love/hate relationship with anatomy that overall makes me want to learn more! Being able to understand how the human body works and the functions of each vessel in a body is so fascinating, and I can’t wait to experience an anatomy course in a college-level setting.
Do you know what you want to do after you graduate?
I’m one that prefers to “live in the now” and not worry too much about the future, but I have thought about what I’d like to have and do post-graduation. My aspirations include either working as a nurse anesthetist in a steady hospital, or working as a travel nurse, being able to do what I learned and travel! I definitely know that I want to save enough of my money to buy my dream vehicles and a house with a huge front porch! Everyone has plans after graduating college, but life can happen and there’s never a guarantee, so those are my “hope to-dos” for now.
What aspect of college life are you most looking forward to?
The aspect I’ve always looked forward to is meeting new people, especially through intramural activities or Greek life. I’m so anxious to create new friendships that will hopefully last a lifetime.
