Heather Boutell, director of financial aid at Bellarmine University, educated listeners of the importance of filling out the FAFSA on this week’s episode of Bellarmine's podcast,
The Pineapple. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is open for the 2019-20 school year beginning October 1.
Boutell said it’s important for families in Kentucky to be aware of that date to be eligible for state-based aid. “Kentucky has a limited amount of money and so it is first come, first serve,” she said.
The
financial aid office will hold a workshop for parents and other interested parties on Bellarmine’s campus. The workshop includes tips on how to complete the FAFSA and what to expect when you receive the results, including the Expected Family Contribution. Boutell encourages parents to attend the workshop. “I think parents are extremely nervous because they don’t want to do anything incorrectly,” she said.
The event is free and there is no registration required to attend. The workshop is on Thursday, September 27, at 7 p.m. in the Wyatt Center for the Arts.
