Imagine that first year of college. From making the transition of being away from home for the first time in your life to making your first "B" on an exam, it would be beneficial to stay in contact with your academic advisor. In this week's episode of Bellarmine Magazine's weekly podcast,
The Pineapple, Dr. Andrew Schroeder talks about the transition from high school to college and resources that are available on campus for students.
Schroeder is Bellarmine University's associate dean of
academic advising. In his work, he makes sure that advisors tell students all of the resources for support that Bellarmine has to offer. Along with this, Schroeder reminds advisors to listen, since students often go to their advisor needing advice or help.
“An advisor is a person who is objective,” explained Schroeder, “and students need to know whether they are being listened to or when there is a prepared response.” He wants to encourage students --
especially first-year students -- to approach their advisors about any troubles they may have.
