Brothers of Color - Men of Color Discussion Group

What is the group structure?

The purpose of this group is to provide a safe and supportive space for men of color. The meetings consist of discussing methods/strategies of dealing with racism, social and emotional learning and building connections.

How do I know if this group is right for me?

Brothers of Color invites all cis and trans men of color, as well as non-binary people. The group aims to uplift and support its members in creating a space for dialogue, growth, and lastly addressing academic and social challenges faced by men of color in society. This space promotes safety and inclusiveness to connect with one another, build a strong sense of belonging and mutual support through the discussion topics chosen by the group participants.

Do I have to share?

Yes, members are encouraged to share their personal stories and experiences related to race, culture, identity and authenticity. Sharing in the group creates a supportive and understanding environment that is essential for personal and collective growth.

How much time does it take?

The group will be once a month for an hour and a half. The group will run for the entire fall semester. Attendance at each meeting is strongly encouraged, but not required.

When is the group?

The group is offered once a month. We will announce dates for the fall semester meetings soon.

How do I sign up?

You do not need to sign up or be a client of the Counseling Center to attend this discussion group.

Is this group confidential?

Confidentiality is an important part of the ground rules for Brothers of Color. However, there's no guarantee of privacy when sharing with others. We encourage you to share when comfortable and appropriate. Groups work best where there is open and honest communication between members.
