Bridge to BU
Bridge to BU is a transformative and results-oriented College Readiness Summer Bridge Program at Bellarmine, which will build a strong foundation for conditionally admitted students that will increase their opportunities for retention, persistence, and graduation while preparing them for successful lives and careers.
The Bridge to BU Program will take place from July 1 through August 2, 2024. It will consist of three credit-bearing college-readiness courses focused on writing, math, and academic success strategies. These courses will count toward the 120 credit hours required for graduation and will prepare participants for the work they will encounter in the core curriculum and their majors as they progress toward their degrees.
Students in the program will live on campus, participate in social and academic programming on and off campus--e.g., movie nights, game nights, trips to local attractions such as the zoo and the Muhammad Ali Museum. The work in the classroom will focus on learning by doing. No lectures or watching the teacher do math problems on the board. Hands-on learning, focused on developing core skills through practice, with individualized mentoring support will ensure students are ready to thrive in the classroom and beyond throughout their time at Bellarmine.
Students who are invited to participate will be expected to file the 2023-2024 FAFSA by June 30, 2024. While participating in the program, all meals, housing, and costs associated with the program will be free to students. Students may be eligible for federal funding by submitting the 2023-24 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The 2023-24 FAFSA is used for summer courses and would not impact federal financial aid for the academic year 2024-25 (both fall and spring semesters).
Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive full admission to Bellarmine and be eligible to enroll in classes for the fall of 2024.
Students who complete Bridge to BU will receive additional support during pre-orientation and throughout their first year. This support will ensure students maximize their opportunities for excellence while forming strong bonds with others in our community.
