Accessibility Resources

Bellarmine University is committed to providing an equal educational opportunity and full participation for persons with disabilities. Adapted housing space is limited, and spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. It is the responsibility of the student to register with the Accessibility Resource Center if special accommodations are needed when applying for housing. This meeting must be done in person. Students are encouraged to schedule this meeting prior to June 1. In addition, the students should complete the “special needs” section of the application. The Residence Life Office will respond to requests for appropriate and reasonable housing accommodations in a timely manner.

Appeals may be filed if a student or the student’s parents or advocate believe that the University’s policy or the student’s housing assignment does not reasonably accommodate the student’s disability or endangers the student’s safety or health.

For more information, contact the Director of Accessibility Resource Center at 502.272.8490 or via fax at 502.272.8491.

Evacuation Procedures

It is the policy of the University to provide an accessible place for students to live and study, with appropriate safety and security measures in place. During fire drills and emergencies, alarms and flashing lights throughout the residential facilities alert students of potential and/or imminent danger. In addition, public address systems are used when possible. Smoke detectors and sprinkler systems are in all residential rooms and public areas. The Public Safety and Residence Life staff will assist persons with disabilities who require assistance evacuating a building during an emergency. The staff have been trained to follow the Evacuation of Persons with Disabilities procedures, as outlined in the Bellarmine Student Handbook. It is the responsibility of the student to inform the Residence Life Office if evacuation assistance will be needed.
