LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 26, 2010) -- The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Bellarmine University more than $200,000 to join the search for the elusive Higgs boson particle. Discovery of the particle could shed light on the origin of mass found in all the matter in the universe.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 5, 2010) –Graphic Design USA, a publication for design professionals, has honored Bellarmine University for its in-house creative efforts for two original publications from the past year: the admissions viewbook and a calendar celebrating the university's 60th anniversary. The creative team behind the designs includes: Brad Craig ('01), Amber Dunlap and Katie Kelty ('07).

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 26, 2010) -- The 2010 "Best Student Employer" award from the Bellarmine University Career Development office goes to a project management team in information systems at Kindred Healthcare. The award, presented during a luncheon on Friday, April 23, honors the recipients for providing excellent support and learning opportunities to a student intern. Bellarmine junior, Aaron Yocum, a business major, nominated Rob Wileman, Ted Veterano and Bruce Lukat for the award.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Updated April 21, 2010) -- Bellarmine University will present honorary degrees to business leader Lee B. Thomas Jr. and education reform advocate Robert F. Sexton during spring commencement exercises on May 8, in Knights Hall. Sexton also will deliver the commencement address.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 20, 2010) -- Dr. Elizabeth Hinson-Hasty, associate professor of theology at Bellarmine University, has earned a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at Debrecen Reformed Theological University in Debrecen, Hungary in Fall 2010. Her project is entitled, "Religion in the Public Forum."

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 15, 2010) -- Bellarmine University students, alumni, faculty and staff raised just over $19,500 to help find a cure for cancer as part of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Approximately 280 people participated in the relay event, which ran from 6 p.m. on April 9 through 6 a.m. on April 10. Twenty-four cancer survivors took the ceremonial first lap.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 1, 2010) -- The National League of Nursing (NLN) has appointed Dr. Constance Cooper to serve as an ambassador for the league. As a participant in this elite corps, Cooper will help keep faculty and administration informed about the league's initiatives, grant opportunities, conferences, publications, workshops and other benefits available to members.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 24, 2010) -- In recognition of Women's History Month, soprano Olivia Duval will perform vocal music by women composers at the Amy Cralle Theatre, Wyatt Center for the Arts, on Sunday, March 28, at 7 p.m. Pianist Meme Tunnell, assistant professor of music at Bellarmine, will accompany her. The program, "Familiar Ties," is free and open to the public.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 24, 2010) -- Former Ecuadorean President Jamil Mahuad will discuss Latin American politics and U.S.-Latin American relations at Bellarmine University on Tuesday, March 30. The event, at 1:30 p.m., in Frazier Hall, is free and open to the public.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2010) -- Bellarmine University has earned a spot on the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2010) – Bellarmine University has created the Jack McGetrick Plaza and Locker Room in honor of the coach's dedication to the lacrosse community and his service as founding coach of the men's lacrosse program at Bellarmine. The facility expansion was announced Feb. 20, at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium and Joseph P. and Janet A. Clayton Field.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 23, 2010) -- Feisal Amin Rasoul Istrabadi enjoyed a successful career as an attorney in the United States before turning his focus to the reconstruction of Iraq. Ambassador Istrabadi, currently a visiting law professor at Indiana University, Bloomington, was the principal legal drafter of Iraq's interim constitution and principal author of its Bill of Fundamental Rights. He will visit Bellarmine University Thursday, March 11, to discuss his research on government transitions from dictatorship to democracy. The lecture begins at 11 a.m. in Frazier Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 16, 2010) – As part of its continuing effort to increase the quality and availability of health care professionals in the region, Norton Healthcare has awarded a $600,000 grant to the Donna and Allan Lansing School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Bellarmine University. Norton and Bellarmine announced the gift, which is payable in $200,000 annual increments over three years, pending eligibility for renewal, on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 5, 2010) – Bellarmine University will participate in the Louisville National College Fair on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Kentucky International Convention Center from 2 to 5 p.m. Sponsored by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and hosted by the Kentucky Association for College Admission Counseling (KYACAC), this event is free and open to the public.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 2, 2010) -- Guest lecturer Rev. Bryan Massingale will contrast Thomas Merton's approach to racial justice with that of the church in the fourth annual Thomas Merton Black History Month Lecture on Feb. 22. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in Frazier Hall on the Bellarmine campus.

LOUISVILLE, KY (Jan. 12, 2010) – Mary Gray, Ph.D. and author, “Out in the Country,” will speak at Bellarmine University on Jan. 14, in Hilary’s from 11 a.m. to noon. Gray will discuss youth, media and queer visibility in rural America. The Bellarmine University Office of Multicultural Affairs; Gay, Lesbian and Straight Society (GLASS); Ariel, Bellarmine’s Friendly English Society; and the Bellarmine Communication Association are the presentation sponsors.
