    Burchard named as KMTA 2008 Commissioned Composer

    Bellarmine University Associate Professor of Music Richard Burchard has been named as the Kentucky Music Teachers Association 2008 Commissioned Composer. As such, Burchard will compose a work to be performed at the KMTA state conference.

    Bellarmine holds first alumni art show

    Bellarmine University is hosting its first alumni art show from Nov. 16 until Dec. 16. It will feature the work of approximately 30 Bellarmine alumni who graduated with a fine arts degree from 1977 to 2007.

    Bellarmine University Lansing School establishes FNP program

    Bellarmine University’s Lansing School of Nursing and Health Sciences has announced the creation of a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program. The university will offer two courses from the FNP curriculum during the Spring 2008 semester and will introduce the full curriculum in the Fall 2008 semester.

    Former president of CBS News to speak at Bellarmine University Nov. 1

    The Bellarmine University Institute for Media, Culture and Ethics will sponsor a public lecture by retired president of CBS News Andrew Heyward on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Brown Activities Center on campus. Heyward’s lecture is expected to focus on his experiences at CBS News and the state of network news.

    Bellarmine University offers financial aid workshops

    This fall and winter, Bellarmine University’s Office of Financial Aid is offering a workshop to help parents and students plan for the cost of a college education. Financial aid experts will discuss how to apply for grants, scholarships, loans and work-study programs. They will also preview the 2008-2009 FAFSA, which must be filed to receive financial aid.

    Bellarmine University connected with Joe Creason Park in new multi-use recreational path project

    Walkers, joggers and cyclists have a new recreational destination, thanks to a new paved multi-use path system that was dedicated on Friday, Oct. 5 by Mayor Jerry Abramson. The path connects Joe Creason Park property with Bellarmine University property to create four possible walking routes, ranging from a half-mile to 1.5 miles.

    NRCCUA Study Rates Bellarmine’s Web site as best in the South and fifth in nation

    The National Research Center for College & University Admissions (NRCCUA) ranked Bellarmine University’s admissions Web site as the best in the South and fifth among all 3,087 schools in the nation. The 9th annual Enrollment Power Index® (EPI), a research-based analysis, rates how well the functionality and design of college and university Web sites provide information to potential students to take them from prospect to applicant.

    Bellarmine partners with KDE on principal certification

    In a rare public sector/private sector collaboration, the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), the Kentucky Leadership Academy (KLA), Pike and Graves County Schools Districts have partnered with Bellarmine University to implement a pilot program to deliver a co-designed, co-delivered principal certification program based on the elements of redesign being proposed for all Kentucky principal preparation programs.

    “Freedom Sings,” in concert at Bellarmine University Sept. 19

    Veritas fall courses to begin in October

    The Veritas Society, a lifelong learning institute sponsored by the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of Bellarmine University, will host a course preview reception on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. in Frazier Hall on the Bellarmine University campus. New or returning Veritas students will be able to learn about and register for classes scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 1.

    Bellarmine honors alumni award winners

The awards included: Alumnus of the Year, the Rev. Msgr. Alfred F. Horrigan Distinguished Service Award, Scarlet and Silver Society and Gallery of Distinguished Graduates.

    U.S.News ranks Bellarmine as a top Southern university for 14th consecutive year

    Bellarmine University is once again ranked among the top 20 universities in the South according to the U.S. News and World Report. Slated to hit the newsstands on Monday, Aug. 20, the U.S.News and World Report’s 2008 rankings place Bellarmine in the top 20 universities in the South region of the “Best Universities-Master’s” category. This marks the 14th year in a row Bellarmine has been ranked in this “top tier” by the publication.

    Bellarmine welcomes record freshman class

    Bellarmine University will welcome its largest freshman class in history at several special events prior to the first day of classes on August 27. Among the activities are "move-in" day, convocation, and "Crossroads," a two-day, off campus orientation for first-time, full-time students.

The program is designed for professionals in the brokerage, insurance, accounting, banking, and related industries.

    Lopez selected as Advanced Placement scorer

    Dr. Nelson Lopez, assistant professor of foreign languages at Bellarmine University, was selected to participate in the the annual reading and scoring of the College Board's AP (Advanced Placement) Examinations in Spanish. The grading took place in San Antonio from June 3-10.
